Training of Specialists

  • Bachelor’s Degree: Educational and professional program “Physics,” Specialization 104 “Physics and Astronomy,” Field of Knowledge 10 “Natural Sciences.” Within this program, the Department of General Physics, in collaboration with the Department of Metal Physics, provides training for bachelor’s students through the specialized elective block (SEB) “Physics of Nanostructures in Metals and Ceramics.” We also offer the SEB “Physical Materials Science.” Bachelor’s training within these SEBs is conducted during the 3rd and 4th years of study.

  • Master’s Degree: Educational and scientific program “Physics of Nanosystems,” Specialization 104 “Physics and Astronomy,” Field of Knowledge 10 “Natural Sciences.” The duration of study is 2 years.

Annually, 9-11 bachelor’s students and 8-10 master’s students graduate from these educational programs.

To ensure high-quality training for bachelor’s and master’s students, the department has established 13 laboratory practicums, featuring 70 laboratory works for specialized courses. These are conducted using scientific equipment from the “Physical Materials Science of Solids” research laboratory. This same laboratory is also where students specializing in the department annually complete their qualifying bachelor’s and master’s theses.

To maintain a high educational and methodological standard of teaching, the department actively publishes educational materials. Over the last 7 years, 24 textbooks have been published, covering both specialized courses and the general physics curriculum.

Research Activities

Scientific research at the Department of General Physics is a collaborative effort between the department’s faculty and the staff of the “Physical Materials Science of Solids” research laboratory.

Main Research Areas:

  • Physics of semiconductor nanostructures and polymer nanocomposites (Prof. O.O. Korotchenkov)
  • Development and physical properties of carbon nanomaterials and nanocomposites (Prof. L.Yu. Matsui)
  • Active ultrasound as a tool for defect engineering in semiconductors (Prof. O.Ya. Olikh)
  • Heat transport in heterogeneous nanostructured materials (PhD in Physics and Mathematics, Assistant Lecturer P. Lischuk; Senior Research Scientist A.G. Kuzmych)
  • Electronic structure and phase transformations in semiconductor systems and nanocomposites (Prof. M.O. Borovyi)

In 2022, the department is conducting 3 state-funded research projects totaling UAH 2,960,000. Over the past 5 years, 7 state-funded research projects have been completed, with a total value of UAH 19,484,000.
